Following a scathing interview in midweek, Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Manchester United’s Premier League match against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Only eight substitutes have been named for the match by Ralf Rangnick, including two goalkeepers in Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson.

United beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Old Trafford in the FA Cup on Monday, and will be looking for a repeat performance at Villa Park.

With Ronaldo out due to injury, Anthony Elanga, Edinson Cavani, and Mason Greenwood were all given starts for the match.

Ronaldo failed to recover from a hip flexor injury and did not train on Friday, according to Rangnick, who confirmed this before kick-off.

“I’m hoping he’ll be able to play on Wednesday,” Rangnick added.
