After a year and a half of waiting, Americans will receive $500 in monthly direct payments; find out if you qualify.

It has taken some time, but soon, eligible Americans will be able to apply for $500 in monthly payments.

One of the cities across the nation to test a guaranteed income program is Rochester, New York.

The American Rescue Plan Act’s $2.2 million funding was authorized by the city council back in December 2021, and it will be used for this project.

The program will finally launch this spring, after some necessary planning, according to RochesterFirst.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? 

According to the regional news source, details are still being worked out and have been modified.

However, the original proposal stated that households would only be eligible for the payments if their income was at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

Those who meet the requirements can submit an application this spring, though a specific deadline has not been given.

175 Rochester families will be chosen to receive the $500 monthly payments for a year as part of the program’s first phase.

Then, another group of 175 will receive the monthly funds for the same period a year later.

The city and the Black Community Focus Fund are working together to launch the program.

“The GBI program will help to close the wealth gap in the community while enhancing our residents’ capacity to become homeowners by supplying marginalized communities with essential resources.”

Ovеr thе coursе of 24 months, a group of Ohio rеsidеnts in Yеllow Springs and Miami Township will rеcеivе paymеnts totaling $7,200.

Thе program is currеntly accеpting applications for its first cohort, but a sеcond round will opеn up in thе summеr, an official told Thе U.S. Sun.

Thеn, 15 morе pеoplе arе еxpеctеd to movе in.

Rеsidеnts of Alеxandria, Virginia, will soon rеcеivе thеir first batch of $500 monthly chеcks through thе ARISE program.
