Jamie Carragher made fun of Steven Gerrard for channeling his inner Ralph Hasenhuttl during the match against Manchester City.
It happened right after Aston Villa’s brilliant 1-1 draw with Leon Bailey at Villa Park. Following Erling Haaland’s consecutive hat-tricks in the Premier League, it seemed as though Gerrard’s team would be the next to be put to death.
Even though the Norwegian sensation scored, City’s offensive prowess was successfully contained to avoid a goal-fest on Saturday night.
Conor Gallagher is being watched by Thomas Tuchel, who loses his mind.
After some excellent work from Jacob Ramsey, Bailey was able to shoot past Ederson, giving the Brazilian no chance, and Villa only needed one shot on goal to make an impact. Celebrations broke out all over Villa Park, even in the dugout.
At least for a moment, as Gerrard’s emotions took over before he turned back to his bench and calmed both himself and his staff. It brought to mind Southampton manager Hasenhuttl, whose similar response gained widespread attention.
In a co-comment, even Carragher stated: “Stevie has just turned into an instant meme.”
The Liverpool legend admitted he was perplexed by the decision to rule Philippe Coutinho’s goal out as offside, despite the fact that he can leave happy with a point. Even though the playmaker was actually onside, the Brazilian had sublimely pinged one in, but the whistle had already gone.
“I saw a legitimate goal, but obviously I am biased,” he declared. The whistle went against us twice in the game because the referee did the same thing at the other end with [Ezri] Konsa on the goalkeeper.
