Jim Beglin, a former Liverpool defender, has apologized on social media for the “verbal error” that stunned Manchester City fans during their match against Chelsea.

City faced Chelsea at the Etihad on Saturday, knowing that a win would put them 13 points clear atop the Premier League table ahead of Liverpool’s match against Brentford on Sunday.

Despite the fact that City went on to win 1-0 thanks to Kevin De Bruyne’s excellent finish, a few City supporters were irritated by Beglin’s passing remark.

City have been mocked by their rivals for looking for empty seats at the Etihad, earning them the moniker “Emptyhad,” which they probably didn’t expect to hear on TV coverage.
