Today Show Star Dylan Dreyer Steps In to Cover for Al Roker

On Tuesday morning, Today Show star Dylan Dreyer filled in for her co-star Al Roker, who was absent for the day. Hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced at the beginning of the show that Dylan would be taking over for Al.

This is not the first time that Dylan has stepped in for Al. Last year, Al had to take a break from the show due to his ill health, leaving Dylan to step up and fill in. In an exclusive interview with HELLO! earlier this year, Dylan shared what it meant to the team to have Al back in the studio.

“It’s been amazing and special on so many levels to have Al return,” Dylan said. “We are a tight-knit family on the Today show. What you see is what you get.”

Dylan also revealed that she and her co-stars were all genuinely worried about Al during his illness. “I think there was a very real moment when we were all concerned,” she explained. “Not knowing what was going on and just praying and reaching out for information was hard. We were genuinely worried as friends.”

Al was absent from the show for nearly two months last year after being admitted to the hospital twice due to blood clots in his lungs. After returning to the show, he revealed that his illness was life-threatening and required a seven-hour surgery and the loss of half his blood due to internal bleeding.

Praising his wife, Deborah Roberts, Al expressed gratitude for her support during his illness. He said, “Thank God for Deborah. She basically shielded me from a lot of this. I had no idea how sick I was. I am a living example of ignorance is bliss.”

Support for Kristen Welker

In addition to Al’s absence, the stars of Today also showed support for their colleague Kristen Welker as she began her new role as the host of Meet the Press with Kristen Welker. Savannah Guthrie congratulated her with a selfie on Instagram featuring a mug with the show’s name, and Craig Melvin praised her hard work and instincts as a journalist.

As Dylan Dreyer stepped in to cover for Al Roker on Tuesday morning, it was a reminder of the tight-knit family that the hosts of the Today Show have become. Their support for one another in both personal and professional challenges is evident, and it is this unity that makes the show so special. Despite facing health issues, Al Roker found comfort in knowing that his co-stars were genuinely concerned about him. Today Show viewers can continue to look forward to more heartfelt moments and remarkable teamwork from the beloved hosts.
