NEWCASTLE are reportedly close to signing Kilmarnock’s Charlie McArthur.
The 17-year-old is one of Scotland’s top young prospects and is out of contract next year.
And the TelegraphAccording to reports, after breaking into Killie’s first team this season, McArthur is set to join mega-rich Newcastle.
The centre-back made four senior appearances for Kilmarnock, including a league debut in May. He captained Scotland at the U17s Euros this summer.
In the January transfer window, both Manchester City and Liverpool were linked with signings.
In the meantime, Brighton, Wolves, and West Ham have expressed interest in making a £275,000 bid.
Newcastle, on the other hand, appears to have won the race to sign McArthur.
Eddie Howe, despite being backed by Saudi billionaires, is focused on putting together a strong team in a prudent manner.
McArthur has already been praised for his leadership abilities, despite the fact that he is still a teenager.
The player himself appears to be ready to take the next step, stating at the Euros last month that he will decide his future soon.
