Butler, 24, rose to fame after appearing in the Netflix series and won over viewers. The program followed the Navarro College cheerleaders as they trained for the NCA College Nationals in Daytona, Florida, as well as their award-winning coach Monica Aldama. Butler attended Weber State University in Utah as of 2021 and played for the college team in the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 seasons.

At the conclusion of season 1, it seemed as though several students had completed their studies at the Texas community college, but Aldama, 50, told Us in January 2020 that Navarro doesn’t “follow your typical NCAA rules like the other sport.”

She explained to Us at the time, “For NCA [National Cheer Association], which is the organization with which we compete, you have five years of eligibility, and three of those can be at a junior college.
