Skunks, on the other hand, will eat beetles, mice, rats, crickets, and grubs if left to their own devices.

While you’re at it, you might as well ignore opossums. They eat slugs, snails, and venomous snakes, as well as killing the same small pests that skunks do.

If you have a dead animal in your yard, an opossum will most likely find it and eat it, saving you the hassle.

They also eat overripe fruits, which helps your garden thrive.

“Opossums can play a useful role as seed dispersers because they eat berries and other fruit,” Phillips explained.
