This Gothic horror project is based on the same-titled 1976 book by Anne Rice. The novel was previously adapted into a 1994 movie starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, who played vampire Lestate and Louis, respectively. Their young friend Claudia, who was transformed into a vampier as a child, was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst. Daniel Molloy, a reporter from the present who is there to speak with Louis, was portrayed by Christian Slater.

According to the AMC Press release, this new series is a “sensuous, contemporary reinvention” of Rice’s book.

It continues:

The epic tale of love, blood, and the dangers of immortality as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) by Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid), and Claudia (Bailey Bass) is the subject of “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.” Louis, a black man in early 20th-century New Orleans, finds it impossible to refuse the rakish Lestat De Lioncourt’s invitation to join him as his vampire companion because he is frustrated by the restrictions of his situation. However, Louis’s seductive new abilities have a violent cost, and the introduction of Lestat’s newest vampire pup, Claudia, soon sets them on a protracted course of retaliation and atonement.

On September 28, before the first season even aired, the show was given a second season order.

“This show’s scope and breadth, as well as [producer Mark Johnson and showrunner Rolin Jones’] work, are just stupendous,” one reviewer said. We are incredibly proud of how beautifully they captured the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice’s Interview. Nothing was overlooked, from the creation of the set to the production design, costumes, and more. According to Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, “This stellar cast deliver powerful performances that emotionally connect us to these characters and their humanity.” “We are thrilled that this story will continue and look forward to sharing the results of this extraordinary effort with audiences in just a few short days. This is only the beginning of a whole universe filled with fascinating tales and characters that perfectly encapsulate the essence of Anne Rice’s incredible work.

“The chance to revisit Louis, Lestat, and Claudia’s passionate and shocking world is irresistible. We will gladly enter the doorway that AMC has so graciously opened for us and present a season two that fully utilizes the marvels bestowed upon us by Anne Rice, Johnson continued.

Jones stated, “Bulgaria. Romania. Paris. San Francisco. (Oh, Paris!) Los Angeles. Dubai. The authors of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire are grateful, grateful, and eager to add more passport stamps for our vampires. All glory to our fearless network, and we’ll work hard to keep things running smoothly.

“Louis de Pointe du Lac lives in 1910 New Orleans as executor-in-charge of his family’s fortune. When he meets the vampire Lestat, Louis’ life starts to unravel in otherworldly ways. In 2020, Louis tells his story to journalist Daniel Molloy.” is how the first episode is titled, “In Throes of Increasing Wonder.”

The second episode, “…After the Phantoms of Your Former Self,” airs on October 9. According to its synopsis, “Louis begins his life as a vampire, learning the rules of vampirism from his maker and companion Lestat; Louis discovers increasing differences between himself and Lestat; in Dubai, Louis reveals more of his modern-day vampire lifestyle to Molloy.”
