Iman Basafa, an Iranian midfielder, has been signed by Bengaluru FC for the upcoming Indian Super League season. The 29-year-old has agreed to a deal that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2021-22 season. Basafa, who most recently played for Machine Sazi in the Persian Gulf Pro League, is Bengaluru FC’s tenth summer signing. Basafa has played for his country at the U17, U20, and U23 levels, but he has never been capped by the senior team. Basafa said he was excited to contribute to the team’s cause in a statement released by the club on Tuesday. Iman Basafa’s arrival will add depth to Bengaluru FC’s midfield.
Basafa began his youth career at Shahrdari Bandar Abbas and has also played for Mes Sarcheshmeh, Steel Azin, and Shahrdari Arak. In 2012, he made his professional debut with Shahrdari. Basafa joined Esteghlal in 2013 and made his AFC Champions League debut the following year. This will be his first time playing outside of Iran. Bengaluru FC coach Marco Pezzaiuoli believes Bafasa will improve the club’s leadership and technical ability. Bengaluru FC kicks off their Indian Super League campaign on November 20 against NorthEast United FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim.
