If they are unable to sign Jude Bellingham, LIVERPOOL has reportedly set their sights on three Portuguese midfielders.

Bellingham, 19, has been Borussia Dortmund’s top player for quite some time, but the Reds have made him their top transfer target for the summer.

Competitors like Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on him, so the market is fierce.

This means that Jurgen Klopp will have to make plans assuming he will not be able to sign the English midfielder.

Three players from rival Premier League clubs are on their backup shortlist, as reported exclusively by SunSport on Sunday.

Joao Palhinha of Fulham and the Wolves’ Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves round out the quartet.

The 27-year-old Palhinha has been phenomenal for the Cottagers ever since he was acquired from Sporting Lisbon in the summer for £17 million.

Liverpool will be hoping to beat out bitter rivals Man Utd in the race to sign him away from his contract in West London, which doesn’t expire until 2027.

His performance this year has been so good that his market value has increased by a factor of two, to the tune of £40 million.

Furthermore, Liverpool has their sights set on two Wolves midfielders who are also in the Premier League.

Both Nunes (24) and Neves (26) have been mentioned as possible summer transfer targets for Liverpool.

Man Utd has pursued Neves for a long time, but they’ve always settled for other players.

Nonetheless, as he enters the final year of his contract at Molineux, this seems like the most likely time for him to leave.

In contrast, Nunes didn’t join Wolves until the start of this season.

Like Palhinha, he has four years left on his contract and is unlikely to be allowed to leave unless a very substantial offer is made.

After having to rely on players like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, who both had disappointing campaigns, Liverpool is looking to add depth to their midfield.

Currently six points behind Tottenham with a game in hand, Klopp’s men will have to fight to finish in the top four.
