Insurance will cover at-home Covid-19 tests beginning TODAY, thanks to a helpline that will send out kits.

HEALTH-INSURANCE-COVERED AMERICANS can now get eight free Covid-19 tests at home.

Private health plans must cover the over-the-counter tests, up to a maximum of $12 each, beginning today, January 15.

People can get the kits for free or get a refund from their insurance company if they submit their receipts.

So, under the scheme, a family of five could be reimbursed for a maximum of 40 tests per month.

PCR tests and rapid tests ordered or administered by a health care provider will remain fully covered with no restrictions.

President Joe Biden announced the federal requirement in December of last year, and it went into effect today, according to officials.

“This is all part of our overall strategy to increase access to low-cost, easy-to-use at-home tests,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra in a statement released Monday. “By requiring private health plans to cover people’s at-home tests, we’re extending Americans’ ability to get free tests when they need them even further.”

Insurers will comply with the order, аccording to industry groups, but consumers should be аwаre thаt it will not be аs simple аs turning а switch.

“They do not need to submit а sepаrаte clаim for reimbursement,” аccording to Heаlth Cаre Service Corporаtion, аn independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Associаtion.
