It’s a disaster, I sucked, that’s what happened.

The 2022 ATP Finals’ final group match on Friday saw Novak Djokovic defeat Daniil Medvedev by scores of 6-3, 6-7(5), and 7-6(2). The match lasted three hours and eleven minutes.

The World No. 1 lost in the opening round of the Paris Masters and finished 0-3 in his group matches at the ATP Finals. 5 had a four-match losing streak to end the year.

During his press conference following the competition, Daniil Medvedev was asked about his string of losses. The Russian didn’t mince words when he called his performance a “disaster” and said that the defeats were entirely his fault because he “sucked.”

“Super easy, so that’s what happened. I sucked. Disaster, indeed. I’m really relieved that this match did not count toward elimination from the group because if it had, I would have had to play two matches in which I dropped a match-deciding serve. This one didn’t count, at least,” Medvedev said.

However, he added that he will make an effort to improve the next time because he “has no other choice.”

But that’s terrible, I agree. I’ll make an effort to improve the next time. I’m stuck with it, he continued.

Despite his performance against Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev said, “I guess it was a good fight, but no positives.”
