Jill Biden, the first lady, will visit Romania and Slovakia on her second solo overseas trip to get a closer look at the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
She will spend Mother’s Day in a small Slovakian village near the Ukrainian border meeting with displaced families.
Jill Biden told reporters traveling with her Thursday night, “It’s so important to the president and to me that the Ukrainian people know that we stand with them.”
Jill Biden said this week, “I can only imagine the grief families are experiencing.”
“I know we don’t speak the same language, but I hope I can convey, in ways that are far more powerful than words, that their courage inspires me, that they are not forgotten, and that all Americans continue to stand with them.”
During her trip, the first lady will meet with humanitarian aid workers, educators, government officials, and US citizens. embassy personnel, according to the White House.
