“Looks like Sunny G was chosen, and opening is a difficult job,”

In the second Twenty20 International between India and South Africa, KL Rahul was in excellent form, and his 28-ball 57 helped the hosts win by 16 runs to win the series. At the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, the Indian vice-captain was selected as the Player of the Match for the same.

Fans were baffled and in disbelief when the opener won the prize instead of Suryakumar Yadav and David Miller. For those who are unfamiliar, “SKY” slammed a scorching 22-ball 61 and messed with the South African attack, pushing the Indian total up to an enormous one in the process.

Miller, who scored an unbeaten 106 off just 47 deliveries, served as the Proteas’ lone pillar. His innings gave the hosts’ bowling unit a scare, significantly lowered the loss’s margin, and even gave South Africa hope for an unlikely victory.

What Twitter users had to say about Rahul being named Player of the Match is as follows:

KL Rahul was named the game’s MVP before SKY and Miller. Tell me how that works, please. Please.

The only justification I can see for awarding KL Player of the Match is that SKY has been selected as Player of the Series.#CricketTwitter

He didn’t even play India’s best knock. Surya was there.

@toecrushrzzz @mufaddal_vohraIt really ought to have gone to Miller or Chahar. In the context of the game, an economy of just 6.1 in a match where every bowler went for 11 RPO (Maharaj is another but bowls in the first innings) is just astounding.

KL’s innings weren’t even his team’s or the game’s best innings. It is absolutely ridiculous that Miller was passed over for the player of the match award. KL also benefited from getting to bat in the PP. Miller, however, scored a 100 at a 13.53 RPO despite not even batting in the PP.

In order to ruin KL Rahul’s good day, the commentators awarded him Man of the Match.

Man of the match was taken by Sky. No offense, kl was excellent tonight, but it was sky’s knock that decided the game.

KL Rahul expressed surprise at receiving Player of the Match honors against South Africa, saying, “I’m quite surprised I’m getting this.”

Rahul himself expressed his surprise at winning Player of the Match over Suryakumar Yadav during the post-game presentation.

“Honestly, I’m a little shocked to be receiving this (award).” Surya had a greater influence on the game and altered it because of the way he batted. After batting a few ODI innings in the middle order, I do realize that is difficult as well. We opening batters always think our job is tougher,” he said.

Rahul and Suryakumar’s magnificent half-centuries helped India post a massive total of 237/3. While captain Rohit Sharma scored 43, Virat Kohli added an unbeaten 49. Dinesh Karthik kept up his joyful habit of putting the finishing touches on the Proteas attack to make it ineffective.

Quinton de Kock’s laborious innings and Temba Bavuma’s 7-ball duck made life difficult for the visitors in response. Miller launched a stunning attack, and De Kock soon changed tactics as well, but South Africa ultimately left themselves with far too much to do and lost by 16 runs.

On Tuesday, October 4, the third and final T20I will be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
