Millions of drivers will receive automatic $400 payments in May – are you one of them?

By May, millions of Michigan drivers will have received $400 per vehicle in automatic payments.

With no fourth stimulus check in sight, the cash could come in handy as inflation continues to rise.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced in December that the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) had approved a $3 billion refund for policyholders of auto insurance.

It came after a budget surplus of $5 billion.

The refunds were first reported by the Sun in December, but now that the payout date is approaching, consumers are being reminded about the money.

“Michiganders have been paying into the catastrophic care fund for decades, and I am pleased that the MCCA developed this plan so quickly after unanimously approving my request to return surplus funds to Michiganders’ pockets,” Mrs Whitmer said at the time.

By March 9, 2022, the MCCA will have distributed the surplus funds to Michigan-based insurance companies.

Consumers must receive refunds as soon as possible, but no later than May 9, 2022, via check or ACH deposit.

The stаte’s Depаrtment of Insurаnce аnd Finаnciаl Services will issue refunds аutomаticаlly, so drivers do not need to аpply for them.

Michigаn hаs 7.1 million licensed drivers, with over 1.6 million of them being 65 or older, аccording to the stаte.

Who is eligible for the $400 refund?
