Putin could start a war with the West over “domestic problems,” according to Russia’s richest man.

According to a former Russian billionaire, if Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is successful, “domestic problems” could push him into war with the west.

After making his fortune in the 1990s through currency trading and the oil industry, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a businessman-turned-philanthropist, has been residing in the UK since 2015.

The outspoken Putin critic warned that if Putin succeeded in taking control of the Donbas region in southeast Ukraine, there was a serious risk that the conflict would escalate and involve NATO nations.

“We’ll have to face this plague in other territories if we can’t control it in Ukraine,” he told the newspaper.

Putin will undoubtedly fall short in the end. He will start a war with NATO if he succeeds in Ukraine right away due to internal issues. He will ultimately lose that war, he continued.

The Putin critic was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2003 for tax fraud and fraud, but he was released just before the 2014 Winter Olympics.
