$ The Blacklist, which premiered on the network in 2013 and follows U.S. Navy officer turned high-profile criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington as he works with the FBI to catch his “blacklist” of mobsters, spies, and international terrorists, released its eighth season on Netflix in early October, helping the show secure a spot on the streaming platform’s Top 10 streaming charts.
It didn’t take long for The Blacklist to resurface on Netflix’s streaming services. The new episodes drew a slew of new viewers, propelling The Blacklist to the No. 8 spot on the streaming service’s Top 10 TV shows list, where it has since climbed to No. 7 ahead of Cocomelon, The Baby-Sitters Club, and Pretty Smart. It trails only director Mike Flanagan’s latest film Midnight Mass and the global phenomenon Squid Game, which has become Netflix’s most successful series launch ever. While The Blacklist has yet to make it into Netflix’s Top 5 series, it has made it into the Top 10 overall chart, where it is ranked No. 8. The success of The Blacklist on Netflix comes ahead of the premiere of Season 9 on NBC later this month, which has likely sparked renewed interest in the show as fans try to catch up on the series. Season 8 of the fan-favorite show was a big one (warning: spoilers ahead! ), as it saw one of the main cast members leave. Megan Boone, the series’ star, left the show in the Season 8 finale, with her onscreen counterpart, Elizabeth “Liz” Keen, succumbing to a gunshot wound.
Boone, who has played the fan-favorite series since its inception, announced his departure from the show in June, just a week before the season finale. In a social media post following the finale, the actress addressed her departure, saying that her time on The Blacklist “has been an entire life inside of my own life.” “As she set out to do the same, playing Liz helped me better define the world and myself,” she added. She also thanked everyone with whom she “shared this time,” including her co-stars, crew, and guest stars. The cast shakeup wasn’t the only major change for The Blacklist as it entered Season 8, as creator Jon Bokenkamp also left the show ahead of Season 9, which will feature a multi-year time jump. Season 9 of The Blacklist will premiere on Thursday, October. аt 8:00 p.m. On NBC, it’s 9 p.m. ET. Seаson 8 on Netflix cаn be rewаtched to prepаre for the new seаson.
