According to sources, they were invited to watch the high-profile Prime Video show in action on Friday night.
While Louis, age 4, stayed at home in nearby Windsor, the four were said to have arrived with security at a forest in Buttersteep Rise, in Ascot.
The source continued, “William jumped at the chance because he is a huge fan of the movies.
“They were given a tour of the set and introduced to the main cast members.
“George and Charlotte found the whole thing to be incredibly exciting and enjoyed examining the props and the way that everything was set up.
Louis stayed at home because it was getting late for him.
“Security was with them, and it was very low-key.
“It was a huge honour for the cast, too.”
William was a big fan of JRR Tolkien, who wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, according to actor Martin Freeman.
“He knew all the facts about Middle Earth,” said Martin, who played Bilbo Baggins.
