Police believe a 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel when his car careened off the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale and crashed into a tree, starting a fire.
The victims ranged from eight to 17 years old.
A nine-year-old boy was the only person to escape, according to the police.
Police spokesman Kieran O’Leary said the child “apparently was riding in the rear hatchback/cargo area and escaped out the rear.” The child was nine years old.
