Steve lost his father, Richard Eugene Hawk, in November 2018, according to an obituary published by the Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, a funeral home in Indianapolis. The funeral home claims that Richard passed away six months after Sally. She expired in May 2018. She loved gardening, making crafts, and going on hikes, according to her obituary. Her interests also included exercise. Stefanie was a daughter, Chris and Steve were sons, and Richard and Sally had two daughters. Tristan and Jack, their two grandsons, were left behind. They passed away prior to Charlotte, Steve and Mina’s second child, having the opportunity to meet them.

Mina previously discussed the psychological effects of losing a close relative in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. She revealed to People that the family was particularly hard hit by the tragic death of Steve’s sister because they had just found out they were expecting a child at the same time.

“We lost Stef just as [COVID-19] hit hard. For what I needed her for and what my family needed her for, [she was] way too young and much too soon, Mina wrote. In a time when she herself didn’t see much light, she was a shining example for us. She was devastated by the loss of Rick and Sally, her parents. Stef in particular, but it affected all of us.
“Stef was taken by 2020. And our capacity to unite as a family to express our love for her in the way that she so richly deserved,” she continued. “It robbed my husband of the happiness he had only recently recovered after losing his parents. Every celebration had a gloomy undertone, as if it couldn’t forget the people who weren’t there. It demanded so much of so many individuals.
