The family of Kobe Bryant asked Shaquille O’Neal to “reduce the amount of Kobe” in the film for his docuseries.

When news of Kobe Bryant’s tragic death in 2020 broke, the NBA community was shocked. Shaquille O’Neal, a former teammate of Kobe’s, was one person who was deeply saddened by this. Though many people believed they didn’t get along, Shaq and Kobe actually had a strong bond.

A documentary about Shaq’s life called “Shaq” is his most recent endeavor. A variety of topics, including his relationship with Bryant, will be covered in the docuseries.

Kobe Bryant’s role in the documentary was mentioned by director Robert Alexander in a recent interview. He made mention of the Bryant family’s request to limit Kobe’s screen time there. As anticipated, Alexander happily complied with their requests.

To be completely honest, we also reached a point where we included a portion of their story in the movie. In essence, Kobe’s family asked that we lessen the amount of Kobe we depict in the movie, Alexander said.

“I’m not entirely sure, but we did it, we went ahead, and we complied out of respect for their wishes. At the end of the day, it’s a Shaq film, but I’m very proud of what we came up with in terms of the Kobe content that we included in relation to Shaq’s story.
