Todd Boehly signs a deal to buy Chelsea, and the Blues are ‘frustrated’ by the Haaland transfer saga as they eye Bremer.

Abramovich’s ‘anti-Glazer’ request

MARTIN LIPTON WRITES that Roman Abramovich is demanding that Chelsea’s new owners commit to not following the Glazer Manchester United model.

Abramovich is demanding strict conditions as part of the detailed discussions with the “preferred bidder” consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly.

The Russian’s appointed brokers, the Raine Group of the United States, have told Boehly that he must promise not to pay any dividends or take any management fees for a decade after the deal is completed.

That would prevent Boehly from following the Glazers’ approach, which has sparked consistent and growing fan outrage since their 2005 United takeover.

Despite a late bid from Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos group, Boehly, backed by US venture capital investors Clearlake, is closing in on his £4 billion takeover.

Before final approval, Boehly must agree to Abramovich’s conditions, which include debt ceilings and a commitment to spend £1 billion on Stamford Bridge, the academy, and the club’s highly successful women’s team.
