The doctor’s wife has asked the prosecution to spare him from jail after he allegedly drove his Tesla off a cliff while carrying their entire family.

When Dharmesh A. Patel fell off a cliff in Northern California last month, authorities believe he was attempting to kill his wife Neha and their two children, who were ages four and seven.

In a court appearance on Thursday, Patel’s defense, who was a radiologist at a Los Angeles hospital, made the startling assertion.

In order to prevent Patel from communicating with his family, prosecutors argued during the hearing that the judge should issue a no-contact order, according to FOX affiliate KTVU.

Neha reportedly told rescuers that Patel “intentionally tried to kill us” after they saved her, but Patel’s attorney Joshua Bentley insisted that she “does not want prosecution.”

In response, state attorneys stated that victims of domestic violence frequently do not want charges to be brought against them.
