Entrepreneur Somen “Steve” Banerjee was created on October 8, 1946, in Mumbai, India.

According to TV Insider, he acquired a failing Los Angeles bar in the 1970s and transformed it into Chippendales, a ladies-only “male exotic dance night.”

The bar quickly gained popularity after opening, and Banerjee gained notoriety as the creator of the “world’s greatest male-stripping empire.”

Banerjee was then living the American dream, but everything fell apart after a string of dubious business dealings and accusations.

According to Bustle, a federal grand jury indicted Banerjee on seven counts in October 1993, including murder, murder for hire, racketeering, and arson.

In July 1994, he later entered a guilty plea to racketeering and planning the murder of Nick De Noia, his business partner.

In the end, Banerjee accepted a deal that came with a 26-year prison term.

The true-crime miniseries Welcome to Chippendаles, which debuted on Hulu in November 2022, now feаtures Bаnerjee’s story.
