PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Brittney Griner made her first appearance in public after being freed from Russian captivity in December 2022. The WNBA star reportedly went with her wife, Cherelle, to a Martin Luther King Jr. Day march in Phoenix. She was also seen having fun at the celebrations and posing for pictures with her fans.
Griner’s decision to go public in Arizona after her release came as no surprise because that is the state where she competed in every WNBA game with the Mercury. She was detained in Russia for possessing marijuana vape cartridges, so she was unable to participate in the 2021–22 WNBA season.
