On Monday night,
TROPICAL Storm Nicholas became a Category 1 hurricane.
As it approached the Gulf Coast, it grew stronger, threatening Texas and Louisiana with heavy rains and life-threatening flash flooding.
Storm trackers were correct in predicting that the storm would make landfall by Monday night as it moved closer to the coast. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued a warning of “life-threatening storm surge inundation” along the Texas coast from Port Aransas to San Luis Pass.
On Sunday night, Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted that the state had already begun mobilizing resources in response to the threat of heavy rains, winds, and potential floods posed by Hurricane Nicholas.
“Listen to local officials’ warnings and avoid high water,” he added.
