Robert Jenrick, the Secretary of Housing and Local Government, has been fired. “It’s been a huge privilege to serve as Secretary of State @mhclg,” he wrote on Twitter.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone in the department for their dedication, hard work, and friendship. I’m extremely proud of everything we’ve accomplished. “I will continue to support the Prime Minister and the Government in any way that I can.”
His departure comes after Gavin Williamson and Robert Buckland were fired as Education and Justice Secretaries, respectively. Mr Jenrick was embroiled in a controversy last year when he granted planning permission for a £1 billion property scheme just two weeks before the developer, Northern & Shell owner Richard Desmond, donated £12,000 to the Conservative Party.
