Kai Havertz isn’t in the FA Cup final. Why is that? Chelsea forward Mateo Kovacic starts despite being ruled out.

After suffering a hamstring injury, Kai Havertz was left out of Chelsea’s FA Cup final squad to face Liverpool.

Before the Blues’ fourth cup final under Thomas Tuchel, the forward failed a late test.

Mateo Kovacic, on the other hand, was declared fit after a dangerous lunge from Dan James in midweek, which earned the Leeds midfielder a red card. Tuchel admitted earlier this week that Kovacic would have to perform a “miracle” to play.

Behind Romelu Lukaku, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic started, and Trevoh Chalobah was a surprise inclusion in defense, with Cesar Azpilicueta on the bench.

Thiago Silva made history by becoming the oldest outfield player to start a final in 18 years, with Antonio Rudiger rounding out the back three.

As expected, Liverpool were without Fabinho. Thiago Alcantara was named in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI after missing the League Cup final against Chelsea in February due to a last-minute injury in the warm-up.
