BTS Star Suga Receives Start Date for Mandatory Military Service
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: BTS’ star Suga, who is set to serve his mandatory military service now, has received a start date. The announcement came from Big Hit Music, which updated the information over the local social media platform, Weverse.
According to the statement, Suga will be beginning his required service on September 22. The company also made it clear that there will not be any official events on the day he starts his service or on the day he enters the training camp. Fans were kindly asked to refrain from visiting Suga at his workplace during the period of his service and instead convey warm regards and encouragement in their hearts.

On Sunday, September 17, Suga took to the Weverse app to talk about being enlisted. In a live session, he expressed that his service time is nothing to be sad about and assured his fans that he’ll see them again in 2025. He also mentioned that he cut his hair and his staff had trouble recognizing him with the new look.

In the live session, Suga acknowledged the Army and talked about his recent concert experience. He also revealed his tattoo when a fan asked about it. Reflecting on the past 10 years with BTS, he mentioned that it felt like a film and he started crying when thinking about it.
Enlistment Process and BTS
In August, Big Hit Music announced that Suga had initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement. The company requested continued love and support for Suga until he completes his military service. It also assured fans that they will provide all the support he needs during this time.
All able-bodied men in South Korea between the ages of 18 and 28 are required to fulfill 18-21 months of military service as per the law. However, BTS had previously postponed their military service until the age of 30 after changes in South Korea’s Military Service Act in 2020.
