Wakefield by-election results in Labour retaking the seat from the Conservatives.

Simon Lightwood of the Labor Party has defeated the Tories to win the Wakefield by-election.

Imran Ahmad Khan, a former Conservative MP who resigned after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy and sentenced to 18 months in prison, was the catalyst for the by-election.

After being a Labour stronghold since the 1930s, Wakefield was one of the so-called red wall seats that the Tories won in the 2019 general election.
